Choosing The Right Affiliate Programs
June 4, 2008
When it comes to affiliate marketing, everyone usually tends to run to the typical affiliate programs. They go ahead and sign up for a program that has the most affiliates and is heavily advertised. Usually it’s a beginners mistake, they don’t know the game yet. You see I’ve noticed beginners always go an affiliate themselves with the “get rich” or “work from home” programs a lot.
The majority of them do. They go ahead and set up their little blog, run their little AdWords campaign and make an ad that’s exactly the same as every other ad promoting the product in hand. They stick to nothing but “info” products to promote. These programs burn out quickly, and sales don’t last long whatsoever. Go ahead and brighten your affiliate horizons, and affiliate yourself with completely different things, like electronics, clothing, sporting goods, things that people are much more likely to buy and aren’t thinking about “making money online” or “oh look at this affiliate link, I’m not going to click on it” because they know nothing about affiliate marketing.
Therefore getting sales from these types of people is much easier. On top of this they know what they are getting, if someone where to buy let’s say….a Louisville slugger (baseball bat) they know the quality of what they are buying because it is a trusted brand name, as opposed to the “work from home” program that has no “brand” name and it not known to you whatsoever.
The one’s I like the most are the one’s that don’t require the person to buy anything, just sign up with their name and email. This along with ring tones, and credit card sign ups are the best programs in my opinion for you to make money with affiliate marketing. Something else I don’t recommend is trying to promote your affiliate links on your site. Although this works and definitely can get you sales, it is not the best it can be. I only promote my affiliate links through pay per click campaigns, (currently as sponsors as well) this way when the person clicks they are taken directly to the page where the product is pitched. Which for the types of programs I mentioned above have highly optimized and user friendly landing pages.
These programs have high conversion rates because they are already known, plus have great, attractive websites. Outside the net people are more likely to make a purchase through a recommendation more then anything else. However, I feel on the net (due to knowledge of affiliate links) people are less likely to buy through a recommendation and more likely to spend when coming across the site directly. This is why I use pay per click, and the affiliate programs mentioned above who’s brand have already been established.
In my experience they convert at a much higher rate, and bring me much more affiliate commission then any “work from home” or “get rich quick” program could.
Put these tips to use and sign up to the right affiliate programs like the ones mentioned in this post. Promote them and see the difference.
