How People Fake Their AdSense Earnings

July 19, 2008

People can fake their AdSense earnings?

Yup. That’s right. You read what you thought you read. To think all this time your favorite “guru” could have been tricking you all along. I’m not saying all these people are faking their AdSense earnings–no, but I bet a lot of them were, and a lot of them still are. The ones that “were” I can only imagine went with the saying “fake it till you make it” which is probably why they did what they did–fake their AdSense earnings.

I took a screen capture from one of the many white background, long sales copy websites claiming to make you a millionaire in no time.

Landing pages decorated with catchy, and sticky copy-write were usually flooded with “proof” that looked something like this:

Fake AdSense Earnings

The above is what most of us were impressed by at some point or another in our search for financial freedom by means of the Internet. Although plenty people did achieve such numbers not everyone can. A lot of people found ways around actually earning the money and came across a way to make it seem like they did, then used that as a badge of “proof” in order for potential consumers to trust them and purchase their “product”, in hopes of making their money in that manner–hence the “fake it till you make it” saying.

How can you be so sure they are fake?

Now this does not mean these are fake; they could or could not be. My point is I can show you how someone could easily manipulate what their AdSense earnings look like. And not just AdSense earnings, but any type of earnings be it: Commission Junction, PayPal accounts, Clickbank, Bank account balance–ANYTHING.

But referring to this picture in particular you can notice the clicks and CTR %’s are being blocked from view. I can make an educated guess on why these are fake AdSense earnings. That guess is: If you do the math, the clicks, and CTR % doesn’t add up mathematically with the earnings i.e., they’re fake.

note: AdSense terms of service requires this to be blocked from view, so there is just as good a chance they can be real earnings.

I didn’t write this post to encourage, or inspire someone to do such things. I actually frown upon those who need to lie to get where they are; such action would imply one could not be capable of doing it without lying, and that’s just lack of character in my opinion.

With that said, I will continue with this reminder: I am revealing this so my readers can avoid being fooled by scam artist who use the tactic I’m about to reveal. I highly suggest that no one go out and use this to their advantage; it is selfish, deceiving, and flat out wrong.

I can’t take it! What is it already?

It’s fairly a very simple process, and it’s probably why people abuse of it. To start off you can go to any website. You can use mine as a test dummy.

Go to your browser and clear it. Erase the URL in your browser.

Done? Good!

Now TYPE this code in your browser:

javascript:document.body.contentEditable=’true’; document.designMode=’on’; void 0

note: you should type it into your browser; not copy and paste.

Now hit enter. Voila! You’re done!

You can now go anywhere on my site, or whatever site you were on when you did this and select anything to edit . Go ahead . . . try it!

Scroll down to this post, highlight some text, and hit erase . . . what happened?

Feel like re-writing this post?

That real bad thing about this is not only does it work for manipulating AdSense earnings, it works for manipulating anything. You can pretty much change what someone said, take a screen capture, and make it look like a person wrote something they didn’t. It really is an evil trick. However, I must keep my readers informed to protect them from such evil; which is why I wrote this post.

Update: I was contacted by a couple readers that told me the code wasn’t working when they tried it in their browser, so I made a video showing you guys exactly how it’s done.

note: type the code exactly as is, and make sure there is a space after ‘true’ and then type the semi colon. After the semi colon goes another space right before the word “document”. After ‘on’ there is another space, and then goes a semi colon. After that semi colon there is another space right before the word “void”. After the word “void” there is one last space, then you type the number 0 and hit enter.

Hopefully this video cleared things up for the people it wasn’t working for. Remember to put the spaces where they belong, and everything should work fine. ;)

I’m sure they don’t tell you if they earn 0.

Hi, thanks for the info, but I’ve tried on my Adsense account and it didn’t work. I couldn’t modify anything. I put the correct code there. It really works on your site? Why it doesn’t on mine? Thanks.

    @Andrea - I know right?

@Teodor - type the code exactly as is, and make sure there is a space after ‘true’ and then type the semi colon. After the semi colon goes another space right before the word “document”. After ‘on’ there is another space, and then goes a semi colon. After that semi colon there is another space right before the word “void”. After the word “void” there is one last space, then you type the number 0 and hit enter.

I made a video and updated the post with it to make things a bit clearer. I hope it helps.

Hi I just saw this today, the linked worked with me too as it did with you BUT what after erasing or editing the things how will we save it for future/forever. If we cant then this trick is not harmful for anyone. No matter what I do sites/blogs etc Bottom Line Is That Nothing Will Happen To The Material, how is it unlawful or harmful.

You erased almost all your post but right now I am writing at it. I erased couple of things from my blog they got erased But not permanently when I enterd the URL of my blog in the browser nothing was changed.
PLEASE tell again how can we save the changes and if we can’t then there is nothing to worry about. Please reply with full details like in your Video it was good.
    Thanks & Regards

Lone- I don’t think there is a way to save it; if there is I’m not aware of it. However, you’re right it’s not that harmful, but it can be. In a way you can save them by taking a screen capture after you make the changes, and then using that as proof of your “skill”. But I don’t know how to make the changes permanent, and I don’t think it’s possible.

I was never really impressed by screenshots, especially of Clickbank/Pay Pal earnings.

For one people that do this are only giving you half the equation; you gotta know how much money they put in to get the returns that they claim they made.

@Corrisa - Great point. That is also something to be taken into consideration. Some people spend more than they earn.

CTR and CPM are blanked out, from people who actually DO make that much money, because it violates the AdSense TOS to reveal.

@Ross- Thanks for the tip. Someone else also brought it to my attention earlier today. I will update the post with a note of that.

I pretty much knew marketers padded their earnings screenshots, I just didn’t know how. I always thought I could right click, save picture as and edit the picture to post on my site later, as well as the pictures of the nice cars, etc.

However, I don’t believe in using earnings screenshots to sell products as I don’t actually believe in them, but it seems to be a law in internet marketing to do so.

It could be just as sales tactic to “belittle” people into buying their products, but if I can’t convince people to purchase without an earnings screenshot, then I shouldn’t sale my products.

Then again, I could probably get away with using the same screenshots on others sites. Nobody in internet marketing is going to sue for plagerism.

@Justin - Yes, I think the majority of people just use Photoshop to fake their earnings. I found this code to be an interesting way to do so, and can only imagine it to be much easier than Photoshop.

And yes, placing your proof of sales is definitely a marketing tactic to hoodwink people out of their money, and it does seem to be necessary in order to get a sale, and almost everyone’s doing it. But I guess it all depends on what you want to do.

Personally, I never had one of those type of websites attempting to sell an e-book of some sort, but it seems to me the proof-of-sale feature is something marketers use commonly.

Hi Luis, You are really great! The code worked for me as I tried it on a certain website. Sure, after editing, one can take the screenshots for his or her own selfish interest.

What I want to point out is that I typed the code without considering the spaces you mentioned but then it still worked perfectly. Maybe those that are complaining have not type the code correctly. I dont think the space is necessary. What do you think?

  13. Luis GrossNo Gravatar on September 28th, 2008 5:27 am

@Godwin - With me it actually only works when I include the spaces. It would be much more convenient if you could just copy and paste it, but for some reason that’s not the case and I have to type it out in the browser.

I guess you got the better end of the deal Godwin!

And if you don’t mind me asking, what browser do you use?

  14. GodwinNo Gravatar on September 30th, 2008 7:12 am

Luis, The browser am using is INTERNET EXPLORER.

    THANKS

Got something to say?
