Top Ways To Make Money From Your Website or Blog
May 29, 2008
In today’s post I’m going to include the top ways people earn money from their website or blogs. There are many ways to earn money, and in this post I am going to attempt to list and explain the top money makers that are worth using.
PPC Advertising – is probably the first one that will pop in your head. PPC advertising for those of you who don’t know is when you display an advertisers ad on your site or blog and get payed “per click.” Every time someone clicks on an ad you get paid. You can join several PPC networks and start making money by simply placing the code on your site.
Here Are Some of My Top PPC Networks
Google AdSense
Yahoo! Publisher Network
BidVertiser
Chikita
Clicksor
Text-Link-Ads – is another great way to make money from your website or blog, or should I say was. After Google started to penalize sites for selling text links without the no-follow tag, text-link-ads became less popular. However many webmasters still use text-link-ads and make a very good amount of money from them. Some follow the rules, some don’t but it works for both parties. ( I encourage my readers to follow the rules!)
Here Are some great Text Link Networks
DigitalPoint Link Sales Forum
Text-Link-Ads
Text-Link-Brokers
TNX
LinkWorth
Monetization Widgets – these get more and more popular everyday. These widgets allow you to make money from your website under pay per click basis, some even work with affiliate links. The good thing about this is that they are widgets and are easily applied to your website or blog to make you some money.
The Following Are The Best Widget Monetization Networks
Affiliate Networks – one of the easiest and fastest ways to make money online, works kind of like PPC only a purchase has to be made in order to be paid, and pay is based on a predetermined % by the owner of the product. These things are best handled through affiliate networks, where the affiliate network plays the middleman between affiliate sales and payment method, as well as for the owner of the product.

Commission Junction
Clickbank
AzoogleAds
Linkshare
Sponsored Reviews – Sponsored reviews is when someone pays you money to write a review on their website, blog, or product. Now this is truly a great way make money from your blog and provide your readers with a useful resource all at the same time. PayPerPost originally came out with the idea and then many other companies followed with a better formed model for payment and such.
If your website has a large audience you can offer a paid review directly and cut-off the middle man fee.
Here is a List of Sponsored Reviews, Paid Blogging
PayPerPost
ReviewMe
Sponsored Reviews
BlogVertise
Donations – this is an honest and a very good way of making money online, that is if your providing good quality content to your readers. Having a more personal feel on your blog in my opinion drives much more money to the donations box. A lot of people use this method of monetization for their website or blog, it’s mostly popular for people who offer something for free and do not charge for their service. You can simply place a link to your paypal email for payment.
If you want to be more creative there is a plugin called “Buy me a Beer” this neat little plugin allows you to place a link under each post or on the sidebar if desired, asking the reader if they liked the post why not buy them a beer? And it comes with a neat little beer mug full of beer icon. For those of us that do not drink there is an option to change it to coffee. I feel people are more likely to donate more using this as it comes off kind of humorous. (at least I think so.)
Here’s The Plugin
Sticking to just one method of monetization is not very effective. The proper mix of money makers on your site, depending on your nice is what can help you earn the most your blog is able to. Some people stick to just AdSense and don’t realize all the money they are losing out by not looking into other methods of monetization.
Stay tuned I’ll be posting more ways you can monetize your website or blog.

I love SponsoredReviews and Payu2blog. I am getting a lot of money with those two. Blogsvertise and Reviewme abandoned me the moment I lost my Pagerank, but SponsoredReviews and Payu2blog are giving me even more opps.
Nice post!
Yes, they are great networks. I don’t know too much about Payu2blog, but I’ll definitely be looking into it.
I’m sorry to hear about BlogVertise and ReviewMe, It is something to definitely take into consideration when signing up to one of these companies.
People would much rather join a network that can work with their clients, then pull the rug from underneath them when PR goes down. Thanks for the tip!
The above links above are not for website that has low traffic and 0 PR , cos when I started out those site actually doesn’t approve my site at all…I mean those big companies are looking only for potential bloggers…
And 1 last thing is review me…great that site was actually talk down by some top marketers, mmm …not sure wheres the site already…
Absolutely! These sites do look for certain things before approving you, traffic being one of them. However this is not all they take into consideration if you check out ReviewMe FAQ’s page you will notice that there is a minimum requirement for traffic, subscribers and citations.
As far as “top marketers” (I’m not sure to whom your referring to) talking down about ReviewMe, the reason for this is probably because unlike PayPerPost, ReviewMe does not require the review to be positive. The person doing the review can give their honest opinion on whatever it is they are reviewing, and still get paid for it.
Imagine paying to have your site reviewed, and getting a negative response.
So if your product or website is not any good, the review will make people aware of that. After all, lying would be misleading to your readers.
ReviewMe also requires some type of disclosure on the review, letting people know it’s a “paid advertisement.”
All of the “upgrades” that ReviewMe have are an upside in my opinion. No one is going to pay for a review on a site that no one or not enough people go to, it’s pretty much a no brain-er.
I don’t mean to hate review me, I hate is becaues some bloggers asking for $250 to $500 per review, you know what we are not paying for our benefit , they just review it on their blog and thats all…I mean does it benefit the person who pay…
If review me put those reviews up to social site then itwill be worth that sort of payment, but by reviewing on those bloggers blog…its just like a waste of time,,,,
you look at john chow $500 for 1 review on his blog….. you know why google doesn’t rank him any more…..if you go look at his blog at alexa ranking his traffic is going downwards…..
@Wong – I won’t say a complete waste of time. I do agree $500 is a lot of money for a review. However, having your product/blog reviewed puts a great sense of trust in your readers. They see an already established blogger giving you a recomendation, chances are they will take it. This can boost the amount of subscribers on your site and the level of commenting.
ReviewMe prices can be anywhere from $20 to $200, depending on the site your blog/product will be reviewed on. John Chow’s blog is very popular, so I assume he made some kind of deal with ReviewMe (a long with other top bloggers), where they allowed him to charge more because of his popularity. Yet It is unknown the amount of traffic the review will send and it is not guaranteed.
Your right about his alexa ranking going down, but there is no way to be 100% sure that this is the reason why.
These reviews are very informative. Being extremely new at this, I am finding everything a little overwhelming because there is so much to digest. It’s hard to know what to do first to begin to get noticed. There is so much to learn. Thanks for the insight you provide.
I completely understand where your coming from Brenda, I was once in the very same position. Something you might want to consider when first starting out, is which blogging platform you want to use. You might want to check out these posts for some basic info.
Blogger Over WordPress?
Starting Your Own Blog
Thanks for the feedback. I want to get started with blogging and have tried WordPress a couple of times but am having a hard time to get set up correctly. I tried to set up a “Special Days” blog and ended up with the headline “Mother’s Day” and when I wanted to add something about fathers, it went under “Mother’s Day.” So, anyway, I will take your advice and go the the two sites you suggested.
Your welcome, I think you are having a problem with your title tags. If I’m not mistaken your referring to the title your site has when it comes up in the search engine results…If you are then you need to optimize your title tags with the title you want to display. To do this I recommend downloading and installing the All in one SEO plugin – You can download, and find out more about it and optimizing your title tags in this post
Title tags, Meta Keyword and Description tags
Apply this to your site and you will be able to maintain the title you desire to be displayed, when your site comes up in the search engine results.
I’ll second that “All in One” SEO plugin recommendation. It saves me hours and that makes me money!
@Bill – Isn’t it awesome? It’s a life-saving, schedule-clearing plugin if you ask me. And yes, time is money!
