Importance of Backlinks

May 8, 2008

If your trying to get free traffic in the form of organic traffic, which is being listed in Google’s organic results and not the sponsored listings, then back-links should be of high importance especially for Google. The way Google gives a site importance is by how many sites are linking to it.

The higher the page rank of the site linking to you, the higher Google will rank your site. If your looking to be listed in Google’s organic results you have to get sites of importance to link to you. Some people like to have a bunch of random sites link to them by the bulk, but Google caught on to such sites and have updated their algorithm’s to recognize it and give those sites a really low rank. If you want results you have to do it the right way.

One way you can start off is to write quality content, if you write well and provide useful information other sites will link to you “just because” and won’t even ask for a back-link. Another approach is to contact other webmasters and do link exchanges, but only to sites that are worthwhile. If your site is useful like I said before and relevant to the site of the webmaster you are contacting, then you would be surprised how many would agree.

Writing articles and submitting to articles sites can provide a great amount of back-links. If your article is good, not only will it be on the article site linking back to you, but it will also be on everyone who chooses to use it on their site as well providing even more incoming links. Posting a few articles per week in time will increase your back-links fast and is one of the top free ways of building steady traffic to your site.

The Importance of back-links is great if you want a good PageRank by Google. However you don’t want to submit to FFA sites (free for all) where they promise submission to 15,000 directories (or something along those lines) as these sites are seen as spam by Google’s bots and your site linking to it could get you blacklisted like they were.

Only get sites with a PR of 4 or higher, anything less is a waste of time. Make sure the site is not blacklisted or doing any sort of “black hat tactics” which is illegal search engine optimization.

Not sure if I agree with you. Lower PR sites can be of high quality and may mature to achieve good PRs too.
It is important to see how often the google bot visits the site too.
    But good post.

Absolutely, low PR sites certainly do have the potential to mature to higher PRs and can be of high quality such as this site. However through experience I’ve learned that it takes more incoming links to go up in rank if most of them have low PRs. If you focus on higher PRs linking to you, I’ve come to find that you will not need as many incoming links to go up in rank as you would with lower PR sites linking to you.

    Thanks For The Insight!

In my experience I linked to any PR as far as their website is a true web not a spam web or web with one page or listing something only.Fortunately my PR3 now,but anyhow your post is valuable.

Got something to say?
